I play pick-up basketball games with ghost.

"You have to show violence the way it is. If you don't show it realistically, then that's immoral and harmful. If you don't upset people, then that's obscenity."
-Roman Polanski

Derrion Albert, a 16-year-old Chicago honor student, was videotaped being beat to death.
Below are the idiots who did it.

When I found out about Derrion's death yesterday, I was hesitant to even post anything about this story, but the relief of his killers being taken into custody brought me to it.

Back in June, I wrote a post about violence in the mid-West called:
I posted this dope poem about street violence in Chicago from my favorite show, "Brave New Voices", which aired on HBO.
The post also featured the FBI's list of the most dangerous streets in America and 44% of those streets happen to be in the mid-West.

Derrion's death is no surprise to me.
It shouldnt be a surprise to anyone in St. Louis or Chicago or East St. Louis or Detroit or etc.
We've all heard the countless stories about so-and-so getting jumped and shot and killed and etc.
But I think the fact that someone actually captured it on video is what's shaking everyone up.
But Im not gonna lie, the fact that it's no surprise to me, shakes me up even more.
I should not be accustomed to this.

I am so disturbed and enraged about this entire situation that I cant even express myself through writing right now.
However, I will say that this has to stop.
When did fighting become an after school activity?
When did fighting become a sport to us?
When did fighting become something fun for us to do in our spare time?
This ridiculous, immature violence has crippled our community for too long and we have to do something to find a cure for this sickness.

"If you succumb to the temptation of using violence in the struggle, unborn generations will be the recipients of a long and desolate night of bitterness, and your chief legacy to the future will be an endless reign of meaningless chaos."
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

R.I.P Derrion

P.S. This is why some white people are afraid of black people.
They looked like some animals in that video.
So sad.

P.S.S. How many deaths will it take before this...is considered genocide?
(watch that poem above)

  1. Yea this IS just super sad to me! It makes me so mad at black people, and I just don't understand it. WHY has fighting like this became acceptable?! No one fights one-on-one anymore!

When I watched this video, I was just in awe because it was so terrible! The entire thing.

WE HAVE TO DO BETTER! And its gotta start somewhere...probably at home!

All this madness definitely inspired my tweet today:
@LMO4: GUESS WHAT?! IF YOU EVER BRAG TO ME ABOUT HOW DANGEROUS YOUR CITY IS, I'M IGNORING YOU! THATS JUST DUMB AND IGNORANT & IT PISSES ME OFF!

...Another black child dead and 3 more in jail.
    What a terrible cycle.

    Its just sad. R.I.P.

  2. yeah 4 kids lost their lives that day. the 3 kids that committed the crimes are going to be charged as adults and probably won't ever know freedom again... AND he is actually the third kid from that school district to die on the way home over some bullshit like that. this was the only death that was caught on tape, that's why it's made national news. 2 days ago a 16 yr-old boy was chased down and killed after leaving a store off of st. louis ave. and euclid. it's bad out here! we have to do something about it... our future will only be worse if people sit back and continue to complain without action. we are all responsible for making a change in our communities. me and some friends are in the midst of putting something together to help prevent acts like these from continuing. these kids can't keep dying vain!
